The title of this exhibition stole from Jorge Luis Borges’Chess, in which it concerned about the fate of chesses since they didn’t know actually they were ruled by the players, however, the fate of players also were ruled by God. Then, what about the fate of God?-- the pitiful poet kept on questioning. For a painter, the original base of a work is a board to be played chesses upon. Nevertheless, when being claimed that the work is finished, the spectator in fact doesn’t know whatever game has been played within the painter’s mind and soul during those nights and days, let alone the very moments being judged as a losing, a draw, or a winning. Therefore, the game among the painting and the spectator, the painter and the spectator seems to be imperative to start also.
In the exhibition, people will see potted plants growing and imageries of men appearing here and there in the works, which might be the profiles of human lives either staying alone or getting together in company; likewise, people shall notice the celestial phenomena and the novel, bizzare and even perverted images are presented within those frames, the expression of which deviate from the surface of daily life, yet maybe alluding the hidden psyche as a cathartic experience. From the perspective stated above, now this exhibition looks like a chess game more, which is being played among the exhibition and the works, one work and another. But, a chess game won’t start without rules to be complied with, just as a piece of poem won’t last without a reader passing it down, and you are invited to become a spectator of this show bringing with your nights and days, your own rules of seeing.
